A Pioneer Woman’s Life

Catherine Parr Traill and Susanna Moodie were both sisters born only 23 months apart. They were both born in England and became professional writers before they got married to their Scottish husbands and immigrated with them to Canada, in 1832.
In Catherine’s book “The Backwoods of Canada.” She talks about moving into a new cabin and all the work she as a woman has to do to make the cabin habitable. It clearly shows that she had to work very hard on the house while her husband did some of the larger jobs. But she doesn’t describe Canada as a bad place or a hard place to live in.
In Susanna’s book “Roughing It in The Bush” Susanna talks more about the struggles rather than the responsibilities she has. She talks about how people have to return to the “old country” to collect land from relatives. She doesn’t seem to enjoy Canada as much as her sister.
In conclusion I believe that Catherine is more just speaking about what she does in Canada the experiences she has. And her sister on the other hands speaks about all the struggles and how Canada isn’t really what people back in England made it seem to be.

My thoughts on SS10 so far

My thoughts
So far in this course we have went over some different topics. We have looked at the issue of global warming from two completely different views. I have enjoyed some things about this course, and others I don’t find as interesting. For example, I found learning about global warming, pretty interesting because of the two videos we watched on it. I also liked learning about Western Canada.
When learning about Western Canada, we learned about the different climates that we have here, and the things that can affect our climate. We also learned about the different biomes with in western Canada. I liked this because it seemed interesting to me and reminded me of science, and I really enjoy science.
We also learned about the economy and how the whole economy works. I didn't enjoy this as much because it just wasn't something I found interesting, because it’s just not something I personally am interested in.

Socials Global warming essay

Essay
My thoughts were already mixed and I was kind of already dancing between the lines of believing Al Gore after watching only his movie, but after watching both sides I am more heavily sided towards the video we watched with the multiple scientists.
My reasoning behind this is because Al Gore is from a political background so he has a more political mindset rather than a scientific mind set so the way his brain thinks of this is much different.
A scientist would use facts to prove a theory; Al Gore on the other hand used partial facts to persuade the listener, so even if he wasn’t 100% right he made it sound like it was. And after watching the second video we know that even though some of his facts were correct a large number were not and a large number were blown up in size to make them seem much worst and severe when in reality they were not.
Also in Al Gore’s video, he was mainly focused on Co2 levels and the temperature coinciding with each other, and he showed graphs which proved this. But what a view wouldn't be able to see is that the graphs are distorted to look as is the graphs from both things matched, when in reality they really didn’t.
Al Gore was also very focused on the issue of the ice melting and flooding lower land regions, and just about anywhere with coastal area. He said this was because of Global Warming, but what he did not point out was that the earth has its warming periods, and its colder ones.
It was also pointed out that apparently a layer of greenhouse gases including CO2 were holding in UV rays, causing the world to become warmer. But in the other video they point out that a large percentage of the greenhouse gases is actually water vapor, and of the other gases found CO2 is a very small portion.
So in all this video didn’t really change my views, it just pushed me over to one side more and gave me confirmation on something’s that I was already thinking. So yes I do believe the other video over Al Gore’s
